Springtime on Anglesey

Spring is in the air!                                      23rd February 2026

With a few days of glorious sunshine in amongst the ongoing wet period, we can optimistically look towards Spring. Officially, Spring starts on the 20th March 2026, and I think we can all agree it has been a long and wet winter. On the 29th March, the clocks ‘spring forward' with the start of BST (British Summer Time) remember “spring forward and fall back” and although we lose an hours sleep an extra hour of daylight in the evening will be welcome.

Spring is the time when Anglesey starts to awake from its winter slumber – perhaps like a lot of places and people. Longer days provide more time to enjoy the outside with warmer weather and great outdoors as nature wakes providing some spectacular scenes on Anglesey.

Our Reopening

The Seafront Inn reopens on the 1st of April 2026 and “yes” we know it is April Fools Day, but we can confirm it is not a hoax or joke!

We have made a slight name change, and are now the Seafront Inn, i.e. we have dropped the ‘Hut’. Still the same place with the same owners and our unique approach to hospitality.

Opposite is the new logo, still reflecting our closeness to the sea and celebrating Holyhead’s famous maritime history. Although all the rebranding is not fully complete, it should be soon. We just need some of the warmer and dryer weather outside.

Everything else remains very much as our great guest reviews testify too, in essence 'comfortable, affordable and convenient accommodation, ideal for the Holyhead ferries'.

Reopening 1st of April 2026

What’s New!

Perhaps the most important change from a guest point of view is our introduction of ‘Express Booking’ thanks to our Booking partner FreetoBook. This makes booking much quicker and easier and also links to Google and Apple Pay. This really is a much more streamlined system, which we are sure guests will appreciate and welcome.

Recent research has found that most guests now book on a mobile device. It is really easy to book using your smart phone or tablet. Using the 'BOOK NOW' button (top right of the screen - see opposite) you can make a booking in a few quick clicks.

We continue to remind guests that you always get the best price when you BOOK DIRECT, and with the new Express Booking process, direct booking is now so easy - quick link below.

There will also be some minor tweaks and upgrades for the start of the season to the property, which we hope guests will notice and appreciate when they stay with us. We continually look at guest feedback for suggestions as to any little improvements we can make.

Remember, we do not offer breakfast - most of our guests leave rather early for the first ferry. However, there are many local cafes and takeways that offer breakfast.

These are fully detailed in our Online Guidebook - follow the link below.

What’s On - it will soon be Easter...

Easter is early this year, the first weekend in April, with Good Friday the 3rd of April , Easter Sunday the 4th and of course a Bank Holiday on Monday the 5th. Hopefully, we will enjoy some great dry and warm Easter weather. A little research tells us the following for the last 5 years:

Year Weather Easter
2025 Record Sunshine and Warmth Dates: 18–21 April
2024 Dull, Wet, and Windy Dates: 29 March – 1 Apri
2023 Mild Sunday, Wet Monday    Dates: 7–10 April
2022 Unseasonably Warm Dates: 15–18 Apri
2021 Arctic Cold Snap Dates: 2–5 Apri

It is probably best to stop at 2021. Any pattern probably tells us to expect better weather with a later Easter. With the current climate, who knows! We must go as far back as April Saturday 1949 for the hottest Easter on record with a scorching 29.4°C, in London though, not Anglesey.

For this year, far to early to forecast, but...

'Temperature Trends: The Met Office predicts 2026 will be one of the warmest years globally. In the UK, a gradual rise in temperatures is expected from late March, with "balmy weather" becoming more likely through April.'

So, here’s hoping for a dry, warm and sunny Easter for everyone to enjoy a long and relaxing Easter weekend.

Why visit Anglesey in the Spring?

Simply, it’s a little quieter with less traffic, there are usually better value ferry fares and many of the local businesses have early season offers on accommodation, food and also in the shops.

It’s quieter for walking, with stunning scenery and nature blossoming and wildlife starting a new cycle of life. For keen bird watchers (ornithologists) there is the following:

  • Puffins: Nesting at South Stack and Puffin Island (best seen March–August).
  • Arctic Terns: Arrive in late April/May to breed, with a major colony at Cemlyn Nature Reserve.
  • Red-billed Chough: Often seen near the South Stack café and on cliffs.
  • Seabirds: Guillemots, razorbills, fulmars, and kittiwakes populate the cliffs.
  • Rare Species: Roseate terns may be spotted, particularly on boat trips.
  • Other Spring Birds: Little egrets, stonechats, linnets, and garden birds like finches are common

For those wanting a lovely walk close to the Seafront Inn, Penrhos Nature Reserve is absolutely stunning with snowdrops, bluebells and daffodils.

Events Calendar

We have added an events calendar to our website. From experience, it has never been easy to draw together all the great events that are held around Holyhead and on Anglesey. What we have so far is only a start! Hopefully more will be added as they are published which will hopefully assist in planning stay dates at the Seafront Inn.

So, rather than just a quick stop with us in Holyhead, either side of a ferry journey, plan to stay a little longer and enjoy the spectacular scenery, maritime history and great events Holyhead has to offer.
